I got one of these with my case but it wouldn't work. I'm gathering that the red cable from the fan end which plugs into the female 4 pin connector should be connected to the red wire already in there (between the male and female 4 pin connectors) like the black wire is connected to the other black wire.

Can you only connect 1 fan to a molex connector with this converter?

No, this is for 3 pin fans.
